Got a question recently: Why is Maker Faire: NC so big and so successful? Although we'd like to say it's because we're just so awesome at putting together a Maker Faire that would be a lie.
Truth be told, North Carolina is the the heart and soul of the Maker World. NC embraces so much tradition as a DIY state: arts, crafts, woodworking, metalworking, beekeeping, gardening and much, much more. At the same time, the Research Triangle in NC (Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill) boasts the highest number of PhD's per capita IN THE WORLD. Globally there is NOWHERE like NC in terms of the Maker Movement: we've been doing it since before it had a name!
If you want to strut your stuff as Maker (traditional skills or the latest tech), MF:NC is where you want to be! Apply as Maker here: http://makerfairenc.com/2013-maker-applications/
Just want to attend so that you can learn great skills from the past or get hands-on advice in how to get started with next-gen skills? Get tickets to attend here: http://makerfairenc-ff0000.eventbrite.com/
In either case, you can make the world and yourself MORE AWESOME, and nowhere captures the Maker Movement more perfectly than the Old North State!
That's right, folks! Maker Faire North Carolina is now accepting applications for 2013 Makers! Head on over to our application site, watch the videos, read the information, and show us your awesomeness!

The original member-based do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio is having an action-packed open house right here in the Raleigh-Durham location on Friday, June 29 from 5PM to 10PM and Saturday, June 30 from 10AM to 5PM. Hey! That's this weekend!
There have been a lot of changes recently: they've renovated the space, upgraded the equipment, and acquired some incredible new tools including a brand new LASER cutter, a MakerBot 3D printer (Thing-o-Matic), and more woodworking and metalworking equipment to list.
There are going to be some CRAZY-GOOD DEALS on memberships and classes that weekend. You'd be well-advised to take advantage of them!
We suggest you head over there, take a tour of the space, and see what all the members have been busy Making. The celebration is free and fun for the whole family. Prepare to be inspired!
I've just been informed that our friends at NC NearSpace Research will be launching another high altitude balloon during the party. Check out their site for more info including scheduling information which, at time of writing, is still up in the air (zing!).
