Bike to Maker Faire:NC - Organizer Needed

As the number of exhibitors and the excitement increases about Maker Faire:NC I'm starting to get a little concerned about parking.  We organizers have suggested carpooling and other alternatives already but we'd like to strongly encourage biking in.

Google added Bicycling route calculation to their popular Google Maps service today.  I think that it would be a great idea for some motivated person to organize a bike-in for Maker Faire:NC.  The Faire takes place on a Sunday that I have decided will be 70 degrees and partly cloudy... perfect day for a ride!

If you think you've got the chops to organize such a thing, shoot me a line via our Contact form.  We'll need someone to map out the route(s), bike storage and security at the Faire, and schedule meeting times for group rides.

Volunteers Needed

We just added a new volunteer application form and updated the Volunteers Information page.  The Volunteer Director, Drew Nelson, will be receiving applications and delegating jobs for making this year's Maker Faire:NC a success.  We can't do this without you and I encourage you to put your name in the hat to help us out!

Ice cream in ziplock bags
With a few simple ingredients from home ice cream can be made. Combine milk, sugar and vanilla in a small zip lock bag. In a larger bag, put ice, salt and the sealed bag ice cream bag. Toss or shake for about ten minutes for a single serving of ice cream. Here is just a basic link to one of many different recipes on how to do this: http://homeparents.about.com/od/recipesandcrafts/r/zip_icecream.htm On my kafe lila web site there are photos and a link to myspace.com that shows pictures of my ice cream cart.

New hackerspace in Chicagoland: Workshop 88

workshop88_logo.jpg

The following is a complete verbatim ripoff from the official MAKE Blog but I wanted this message to get out.  Planning spaces like this is a major headache and I sympathize with the organizers.  Love the logo, by the way.  My advice? Get a laser engraver/cutter ASAP.

Good news for those in Chicagoland! Planning is underway to form Workshop 88, a hackerspace in the west suburbs of Chicago. Here's your chance to get in on the ground floor!

We're currently in the planning stage, and we're looking for interested people in the area to help us get started. We're holding bi-weekly meetings Mondays at 6:30 until we're ready to rent some space and move in. The first meeting is this Monday, November 23, at the Boilerhouse Cafe, on the campus of North Central College in Naperville (29 N Loomis St Naperville, IL 60540).

Some of the things we'll be discussing:

  • Legal structure of the hackerspace
  • Membership structure and guidelines
  • Work that still needs to be done to build out our online presence
  • Current projects

This information is also available on our blog, at http://blog.workshop88.com. Updates and meeting notices will be posted there, as well as on Twitter at http://twitter.com/Workshop88. For additional information, we have a mailing list at info@workshop88.com.
