In spirit, yes. In size? Not quite yet. Maker Faire started in the Bay Area in California and has been held there for several years. Maker Faire:NC is a "mini Maker Faire" regional event that gives people from the local area access to all the fun for far less expense.
We featured around 50 Maker exhibits in 2010 and have held steady in the 100-Maker neighborhood since then. The number of individual Makers operating within those exhibits has grown from 125 in 2010 to almost 300 in 2012! A single hackerspace can be responsible for 20 or more highly talented Makers showcasing dozens of unique projects.
Maker Faire North Carolina has grown from roughly 2000 attendees in 2010 to almost 4000 in 2012.
